Resume (pdf)
Greetings,

Welcome to my engineering web page.

I am a registered professional engineer in the states of Massachusetts and Hawaii.  In Massachusetts, I had
extensive experience in construction, structural, and architectural engineering as well as civil
engineering.  Since moving to Hawaii in March of 2006, my engineering license in Hawaii is restricted to
civil engineering as the structural engineering aspect of my license does not transfer to Hawaii.  I also
have had experience with personal computers since 1986 and am proficient in AutoCad.

Unfortunately, I can't give you pictures of my work because it's mostly grading, drainage, and other forms of
earthwork that don't show up in a photograph.  If I do my job right, you won't notice.  I'm big on blending
things in.  To me, the most elegant solutions are the simple ones.  In any project that involves earthworks, I
don't want to see big concrete retaining walls, I'd rather make it look natural and pleasant if at all possible.
I want to blend in.  Landscaping is taken to involve plantings and yard work.  I do "Land Scaping"

Hawaii provides an environment that is very suitable for the way I like to relate to people.  I like to do
business in a friendly, informal, and relaxed manner.

I am interested in becoming involved in sustainability in Hawaii particularly from an engineering point of
view - alternate energy, environmentally friendly design, low impact development, etc.

Dumb looks are still free!
Lack of planning on your part, does not constitute an emergency on my part.
Architects start out knowing a little about a lot and end up knowing less and
less about more and more until they end up knowing nothing about everything.

Engineers start out knowing a lot about a little and end up knowing more and
more about less and less until they end up knowing everything about nothing.

Contractors start out knowing a lot about a lot and end up knowing less and
less about more and more until they end up knowing nothing about anything
due to their association with architects and engineers...
Planning is everything.  I know this sounds self-serving, but it really pays to spend a little more time and
money up front (a small percentage of your total project costs) to plan carefully.  Make sure you have all
your paperwork and permits in order.  Don't complain about it, just do it!  Make sure that you plan your
project so you can anticipate any problems.  Streamline your schedule so that everything runs smoothly.
Keep costs and delays down.  Make sure the physical aspects - climate and terrain - are suitable for your
project (and vice versa).  Designing for these things will pay huge dividends in the future.
